My Bio

A UK-based illustrator, designer and writer. I play videogames (mostly Nintendo games) and tend to draw a lot of stuff from videogames too! Formerly a comic artist on Nintendo Force magazine. Presently a dad to two Small Fries.

Happy Halloween! Thanks for your likes and comments for Nintober 2023! I've really enjoyed being able to spend some time drawing some new monsters this year. It's a lot easier to find time to do things like this once your kids start sleeping through the night 😁 Hopefully I'll be able to do more Nintober in 2024!

I'm off Twitter

2 min read
After over 14 years, I've finally deleted my Twitter account. Twitter was very different when I started using it in 2008. Small communities would build up around a common purpose, while still being accessible by - and visible to - the rest of the userbase. It became a "community of communities". But Twitter never found a way to monetize that approach. They instead leaned into that most heinous of words: "engagement". Its features were designed to spread and promote messages with the most engagement. The metric wasn't interested in quality. As such, it became a place fuelled by hate-clicks, preying on our worst instincts to point and laugh at idiots - which were also in plentiful supply. The platform wasn't built on hate, but on hate it thrived. And in its new owner, it has found someone willing to sink any redeeming features. There is no community of communities any more, only engagement. I haven't enjoyed using Twitter for a long time. It was getting hard to stomach by 2016 and it

After 14 years and over 150 entries deep, I'm still thinking about Nintendo monsters. And now I'm considering compiling a bunch of them into a book. I'm not sure if there is enough interest to make something as niche as a "Nintendo monster art book" viable, but I wanted to try and gauge interest before I start trying to figure out how to make it happen. So... Would you be interested in buying a Nintober art book? Leave your responses in the comments! The book would likely contain mostly existing Nintober monsters, but with new artwork. I lost most of my original files in 2012 and my techniques have come on a long way since I started. It wouldn't simply be my dA gallery in a book. I expect I'd throw in a few new ones as well. And if you have any experience of this sort of thing, I'd love to hear some ideas of where to get started.

It's been a month since you started posting your Nintober art especially the other 3 that you posted dispite it's November. Also, you forgot to number those 3 Nintober artworks that you posted.

I had the Nintober Do-overs lined up from earlier in the year, and I was going to post them if I didn't have time to do many Nintober entries. But when I managed to do a good number this year, I forgot I had these as back-up until a week or so ago. So I just posted them.

I left the numbers off the artworks on purpose.

On purpose? More like: a mistake. Anyway, I understand and thanks for the info.

No, it was on purpose. My original plan for the do-overs was to only recreate the originals that would still fit the Nintober template today. This was for my silly idea of trying to sell a Nintober book. The numbers would confuse this, as I'd skip over a bunch.

Check out the others, which are inspired by your Nintober series: https://www.deviantart.com/streetgals9000/gallery/67552627/disney-monsters

I was already checking out your Disney Monsters gallery when you messaged me this :D I love this idea, and your descriptions are great too! There's so much scope to carry this on. Do you think you will?

Doing the research to write a short, compelling description... I find that takes me almost as long as doing the artwork 😂
