Taizo Hori, the hero of Dig Dug, is father to the more recent hero Susumu Hori from Mr. Driller. Dig Dug was released 30 years ago and remains a classic from the golden age of arcade games.

Taizo Hori was the second most popular character in the Top 10 Namco characters poll I held recently. There's still time to vote for your favourites. Just respond to the following topic: [link]

I should've said something here myself like times ago but gosh, I love your rendition of Taizo, it's a great blend between his arcade and Mr.Driller-self!

BTW I have a headcanon that he and Mario used to be close buds back in 1980's when Mario was still a looking for a job (being the carpenter and zookeeper and such, hahah) and the way his "Dig Dug"-incident had made him famous made Mario try harder to find a job which can help lots of people. (And that would be... plumbing. I dunno.)

Thanks dude! I put Taizo through a lot of different designs before settling on this one :)

This drill, etc. Yeah, good old times of Dig Dug. Nice work on him, and I really dig (pun intended) the undreground-like background.

Nice, I liked Dig Dug. :D Funny thing is as a kid I first played Dig Dug 2 on the NES, and didn't really get to play the original until years later in one of the "Namco Museum" compilation games.

Same here! Haha! I'm still trying to track down the Namco collections. I've got just about every other retro gaming collection ;)

I have a few myself. (Like Midway Arcade Treasures, and Sonic Mega Collection) ;) I love video game compilation games, and I'm getting the "Kirby's Dream Collection" anniversary game disc when it comes out.

Ooh yes, I have all three Midway Arcade Treasures, both Capcom Classics, Taito Legends 1 & 2 and Atari Anthology (all PS2), plus Sonic Mega & Gems Collections on GameCube. And lots of Virtual Console. I love me some old games :D

Hehe me to. :) Alot of old games have aged surprisingly well for me. (Even ones I didn't "grow up" with.)
